Description

Plas y Mor is luxury self-catering at its very best. Set in its own large garden off a long, winding road down to the sea, and overlooking the beaches and craggy headlands of Porth Neigwl on the Llyn peninsula, this elegant hilltop property adds a contemporary twist to its Welsh rustic heritage. After a day by the water or in the hills, relax in the outdoor hot tub and soak in the coastal views.

A hilltop heritage home

Plas y Mor is a fantastic choice for group holidays and family gatherings. With easy access to beaches and hiking and mountain biking trails, and with an outdoor game room, two large sitting rooms, and six bedrooms, guests will not be in want for activities or privacy when they need it. There is even an ideal little chillout room for teenagers on the second floor. When it’s time to get together again and share stories, there is more than enough room in the kitchen/dining room. And you’ll be gathering in style – the kitchen is light and modern, and fully-equipped. It also benefits from six glass panels that frame the view of the bay and Snowdonia beyond. These glass panels open on to the patio, where guests can enjoy drinks, dine al fresco, and share memories and dreams.

In the corner of the dining area is a large, comfortable leather sofa, cosily set by the wood burner for those chilly evenings you still want to gaze out at the sea. The next room over, and sharing that same wood burner in a classic example of the owner’s discerning eye for style, is the first of the two sitting rooms. Decorated with a honey, white, and blue pallet that evoke its coastal setting, this room also enjoys lots of light and stunning views through its large windows. Then, in another tasteful nod to its roots, the second sitting room boasts lovely, traditional Welsh furnishings and a 1920s tiled fireplace.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

For younger families, there is a king-size and bunk bed family room on the ground floor. Guests without children might even want this room just for the view. The family bedroom is en-suite, although there is also a second shower room with WC on the ground floor.

The next four bedrooms are on the first floor. The king-size room has a quaint iron-frame bed, while the double room has a wonderful view of the Rhiw Mountain and its carpets of gorse and heather. Then there is a twin room and a second king-size room, this one with a beautiful brass-and-iron bed frame and more stunning views over the bay. For all of the bedrooms on the first floor, there are a shower room and a separate family bathroom with a freestanding bath, an exposed original brick wall, and a lovely 1920s arched entrance at the back.

The bedroom on the second floor is a charming twin room with Velux windows for plenty of light. This room shares the second floor with the little chill out room and has access to a shower room with WC.

Practicalities

Two well-behaved dogs are welcome. We are happy to include hot tub towels. A large starter basket of logs are provided for your stay and additional logs can be purchased locally. We can also provide a high chair and cot, but ask that you please request these upon booking and that you bring your own cot bedding. If you are interested in booking a beauty therapy and massage treatment during your stay, we would be happy to provide you with more information on request.

Special Note: Please note that the maximum number of guests allowed to stay on site is 14 at any one time and we do not allow any additional camping. Please note there is a meter for the heating in the games room. This meter uses £1 coins or 20p coins.

Reviews

We spent Christmas here my daughter and family came over and we wanted somewhere we could all be together! As we drove up the road to the property we were totally in love with the house lit up beautifully for Christmas we couldn't wait to get inside! I forgot the code in all the excitement and rang the owner who answered straight away and came over to let us know how to use the gorgeous hot tub! Hearing my family walk around the house full of excitement and compliments about how beautiful the house was I knew we had made the right choice on our Christmas home for the week. Stepping outside to the view of the sea literally takes your breath away you couldn't ask for more! Soon we had the log burner fired up and we tucked into the lovely cake the owner had left for us in the welcome pack xx Plenty of logs for the entire week but the house was lovely warm and cosy anyway! The bathrooms are spotless and the showers are perfect with a beautiful smelling hand wash and soft clean towels and plenty of huge towels for using around the hot tub. Every bed was so comfortable with good quality bedding spotlessly clean. Kitchen area had everything you could possibly need! 2 dishwashers and 2 ovens certainly came in handy with our lot! Plenty of space in the fridge and freezer both larder style again very clean! The dining area couldn't have been more perfect for everyone at meal times jigsaws and craft times. I could go on for hours about this wonderful house but take my word for it and book some time in this beautiful home, you won't want to leave........x Even the storm we had was exciting for everyone to watch with the lightning over the sea!! Thank you owner for making our special family Christmas perfect! X

Location

This large, detached sea view accommodation is set on the outskirts of the tranquil and unspoilt village of Rhiw. In an elevated position it is ideally placed for enjoying one of the best views on the Llyn Peninsula, if not the whole of Wales. The view of Porth Neigwl (Hells Mouth) and Snowdonia, over to Pembrokeshire on a clear day are breathtaking.

The beautiful coastal village of Aberdaron (4 miles) offers several cafes, shops, bakery and two pubs serving food. The village of Sarn Mellteyrn (also 4 miles) also offers a village shop, butchers, pottery, garage and two pubs. In addition to the Ship and Ty Newydd in Aberdaron, Venetia and Coconut Kitchen in Abersoch (6.5 miles) are also recommended for eating out, as are Bryncynan and Nanhoron Arms in Nefyn (12.5 miles). For a relaxing drink, the two pubs in Aberdaron offer a lovely setting.

The Llyn Peninsula is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty, where the Welsh language and way of life still flourish. It is full of hidden treasures that are just waiting to be discovered and it is also renowned for its beaches and watersports. Plas yn Rhiw, a National Trust early 17th-century manor house with an ornamental garden and wonderful views is within walking distance of your sea view accommodation. It is also worth visiting the pub on the beach in Porthdinllaen and the sacred Bardsey Island (Ynys Enlli) by boat. With nearly 100 miles of stunning coastline it is also worth exploring the coastal path that goes all the way around the Llyn Peninsula.

Nant Gwrtheyrn Language and Heritage Centre (17 miles) is another great attraction within its own hidden bay by the sea. For a fun day out visit Glasfryn Park (go karts, ten pin bowling etc) or if you wish to relax, Plas Glyn-y-Weddw offers a magnificent Manor with galleries, beautiful gardens and tea room with sea views. Snowdon (the highest mountain in Wales), Ffestiniog Railway, Cricieth and Caernarfon castles and the Italian village of Portmeirion also offer great days out.
