Description

Expectations for romantic dog walks set a whole new standard here. The stately sprawl of the Holkham Estate is your domain. One of the Estate lodges is your one of a kind bolthole. Hunker down.

Exquisite retreat

Sink in to this oasis of calm and romance. Quite literally, between the crisp white sheets of your super king size bed, in your subterranean bedroom, you’ll be wrapped in cosiness and splendour. Palmers Lodge is a lovers’ retreat that you’ll never want to leave.

Step inside and you’ll be struck immediately by the expanse of your living area. Look up through the beams and exposed brick of the chimney to your vaulted ceiling. Restrain yourself just for a moment from skipping on to the most sumptuous of Chesterfield sofas with ample cushion collection. Look around a little and you’ll spot the essentials for making a brew and breakfast. Everything else discouraging you from putting in too much effort on the catering front while you’re here - there’s a microwave, if you must. Although we too want to make use of those adorable cross-back chairs at some point. It’ll have be over a cuppa for now.

Wind your way down the stairs. Here the exceptional glass lantern over the atrium lets the light pour in and leads to your bolthole’s boudoir. Cleverly created rooms within these once vaulted cellars offer surprise after surprise. The bed is even more comfortable than it looks. All that’s left to do is walk or cycle up an exhaustion level and enjoy it.

Put just the two of you first for a while and do it here. Bring your canine best friend(s) along too because quite simply you’d regret not doing so once you step out your door and explore the parkland and beyond. Discover just how pet friendly Norfolk is as the woodland and trails lead you in to the Holkham village, The Burnhams and on to Wells-next-the-Sea. Holkham’s Victoria Inn upholds a reputation for good food and the warmest of welcomes - it could become your new favourite local.

Bedroom and bathroom

On the lower ground floor you’ll find a master bedroom with super king size bed. The en suite provides a heavenly shower experience.

Reviews

The lodge was perfect for us and beat the description on the web site and our expectations'. A lovely quiet spot, buried in the heart of the wood. We had the grounds , the house to explore, and the walled garden was beautiful, and huge! The staff are unfailingly warm, friendly and professional. We will be going back.

Mr S,

A lovely cosy lodge, very quirky and in a fabulous location particularly if you enjoy walking. All very comfortable and kitchen well equipped. Wi-Fi worked well. We didn’t use the log burner, however plenty of logs were supplied if we had wanted to. Goodies on arrival were very much appreciated. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to the next visit.

Ms H,

Palmers lodge is quirky and in a quiet area of the Holkham estate, although there’s no private garden our dog was ok off the lead outside the lodge by the table and benches. We spotted deers on a daily basis, just magical and so peaceful. Upstairs is lovely, we were even a bit gutted it was so hot as we didn’t get chance to use the log burner! Downstairs is super quirky but a little damp. Overall, we loved it and will definitely return to Holkham.

Ms S,

Beautiful property. My husband thought that the kitchen was short on equipment, but cooking is one of his hobbies so I think most nrmal people would have been happy. The lighting in the living room was a bit dim. Having an additional light in the kitchen area might help

Mrs H,

The perfect hideaway.

Mr M,

Beautiful location in another world, super comfortable bed, lovely drive through the deer park to find the property.

Mr B,

A comfortable, peaceful and secluded place to stay.

Mr L,

A lovely place to stay - having the bedroom in the basement did not worry at all, and we and the dogs had the freedom of the huge estate.

Mr L,

A great stay in a unique building set privately within wonderful parkland. A great experience.

Mr C,

We stayed in South Lodge East last year and had such a wonderful time that we couldn’t wait to come back. The estate is as amazing as we remembered but Palmers Lodge was a big disappointment. The downstairs of the property was cold and damp in spite of putting the heating on. The bathrooms were grubby and cold. There were spiders and bugs everywhere. Our clothing smelled of damp. We were basically very uncomfortable -even the bed seemed damp. The welcome pack would have been more useful if it included a small loaf of bread and a pint of milk. I expected much more comfort from this property and I do not think it is good value for money.
