When a picture speaks a thousand words savour it; let all the spectacular glory of this dramatic building sink in. The Triumphal Arch on the Holkham Estate offers truly unique accommodation.
Tranquility and spectacle combine. Designed in the 18th-century to impress, it continues to achieve this superbly today. And while completed before Holkham Hall itself and intended to draw visitors through and on to the North Norfolk coast, nowadays it is all quiet. All yours. So much so, this stunning Grade I listed building is perhaps one of the most unusual and most romantic boltholes for couples.
Quirky accommodation naturally comes with pros and cons. Here they include stone spiral staircases and stunning vistas. Not forgetting privileged access to the Holkham Estate for the duration of your stay.
Come on in, through the west wing and you’ll instantly see how adeptly it has been transformed to offer luxury amenities and accommodation. It’s a far cry from its roles in times gone by as a sleeping place for shepherds or ad hoc accommodation for family.
The ground floor presents a fabulously light kitchen-diner. Compact yet complete, facilities are sufficient for rustling up light suppers and breakfast, hot and cold. Why not, when there’s scrumptious Norfolk produce available at every turn in neighbouring villages. Light pours in to this area from windows on two levels and the full-glass internal door is a design gem.
Make your way steadily up the original stone spiral staircase. Your path will first cross a shower room and loo. But you’ll be distracted, more importantly, by the spectacular bedroom that greets you at the very top of the stairs. Here you are, right above the arch. Your sprawling bedroom with treats in each line of sight.
Your king size bed has been magnificently positioned. Come dawn chorus, or afternoon graze, your view from here is blissful panoramas up and down the avenue - because there are windows on both sides. Whichever window you choose up here, whichever direction you cast your gaze, solicits enchanting views. Back in the room, the deep seated sofas calls you to repose. The original open fire begs you burn a log on it - you can. But will you first be able to resist the lure of the roll top bath - it would be rude not to, wouldn’t it.
A stay at The Triumphal Arch will excite you both, and any canine friends you bring along too. They’re very welcome. While there’s no enclosed garden, there is extensive acreage you’re invited to explore as long as man’s best friend is on a lead.
Beyond the paths and woodland of the Estate, Holkham National Nature Reserve promises yet more stunning outdoor exploration. Surrounding villages and beaches like Holkham and Brancaster will each delight in turn. For a romantic getaway, this is a rather special place to be.

A truly fabulous folly in an amazing setting. The view down The Avenue is stunning and will be greatly missed as will the gorgeous bed and claw foot bath. Holkham Hall is beautiful, Wells-next-the-Sea and Holt are lovely places to visit. Will be so sad to leave. Many thanks for the yummy hamper and bubbly!
Beautiful place - full of endearing quirks.....but oh my thouse stairs!
A fabulous place to stay. Incredible location - so much to do in a small area! We have cycled miles visiting pretty villages and doing great coastal walks. Lovely beaches and the sea was warm enough for swimming. Hope to return....

Another amazing stay at The Triumphal Arch. Spoilt with a gorgeous hamper plus bubbly for our birthday celebrations. As if this wasn't enough our stay was perfectly timed to see the pink footed geese migrate! See you again soon!
Without a doubt this is the most fabulous place we have ever stayed in! Beautifully decorated and has everything we needed - the welcome pack of food was a treat too! A totally unique holiday home (we got used to the staircase after a day or so!). We would love to come back one day!
Once again we have stayed on the Holkham Estate for our wedding anniversary. This is our first time at The Triumphal Arch and it certainly didn't disappoint. Absolutely beautiful! Felt like our own fairytale tower - will definately be back!
Wow! This was an incredible surprise weekend organised by my gorgeous boyfriend, who has, as of yesterday become my finance!! Thank you for providing the most amazing backdrop for this huge moment in our lives!
Perfect in every way - such a romantic spot and all the amenities we could wish for. Seal on the beach and hundreds of geese overhead - just stunning!
The perfect winter break!we enjoyed the tranquility, the unusual ambiance, a walk on the beach, dining at The Victoria Inn and the comfort of the 'room at the top'.

Stunning, comfortable, peaceful and a true privilege to stay in this beautiful piece of history. The views are incredible.
With our nest at home empty, as both kids are away at uni, this was our first trip away of this new era for us. It really has been a triumphal weekend in the Arch and we will never tire of the Holkham Estate. Thanks for having us in this fabulous property.
With our nest at home empty as both kids now away at Uni, this was our first trip away of this new era for us. It really has been a triumphal weekend up the Arch and we'll never tire of the Holkham Estate. Thanks for having us in this fabulous property.
What an amazing place to stay. Glorious views from every window and so quiet. Everything was very comfortable - many thanks for the generous welcome pack.
What a privilege to stay here and be surrounded by sheep. Loving the long drive to the Arch and mind blowing space. Thank you.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We will return.
This is a fabulous location and we really loved our stay. We definitely plan to revisit. This had to be our best week in Norfolk. It was quite an experience staying in such a historic building and was the perfect location for us. We also loved the goody bag and very much enjoyed the contents over the week!
