Description
Good design means making spaces that flow. From the outdoors in, between rooms and beyond. At The Barn, the designer’s focus on the unusual red brick detailing on the house’s exterior unlocked a world of inspiration within.
A world filled with colour
In years past, a market garden storehouse stood on the site of The Barn. Bright orange courgette flowers, purple potato blooms and cottage flowers destined for local traders would have made this a colourful place. Today, it’s your vibrant gem of a hideaway on the North Devon coast.
Using that striking red brick and natural Devonshire stone as their muse, the interior designers of the house have brought it to life with natural textures and materials, interspersed with pops of colour that add energy and fun to the more traditional elements. Perhaps the best example of that is in the first-floor living room, where an exposed oak vaulted ceiling has been constructed with care, detail and clean lines, whilst pillar box red seating in the space brings the attention down to eye level. From here, open the bi-folding full-length glass doors onto your private patio, with views out across the surrounding farmland and a barbecue for continental living.
Descend the statement oak stairs, left with their beautiful grain visible, into the kitchen where the calm tones of the tiled floor and granite counters are punctuated with deep cobalt kitchen units and doors. In the bedroom, that statement red returns on a quirky candy-striped ceiling with painted beams. This is a cottage that invites you to throw caution to the wind and experience everything that life has to offer – a place you’ll leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Bedroom and bathroom
The bedroom in this gorgeous retreat for two is on the ground floor. A super-king bed can be converted to twin singles by request at time of booking. If you’re sharing the place with a little one, there’s also a 2’6” day bed suitable for children. The bathroom, which is fitted with a pretty ceramic tiled floor, contains a spacious walk-in shower with two heads and a large vanity mirror.
